DCLM Daily Manna 7 January 2022 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Antidote To Despair

TOPIC: Antidote To Despair (DCLM Daily Manna 7 January 2022)

TEXT: Psalm 12:1-8 (KJV)

1 Help, Lord; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.

2 They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.

3 The Lord shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:

4 Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?

5 For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the Lord; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.

6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

7 Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

8 The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.

KEY VERSE: “For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him” (PSALM 12:5).

MESSAGE:

The state of the society today has left the world in utter perplexity. Moral values have disappeared, leaving the godly as an endangered specie. It is a situation that has led many into the pit of despondency.

David was not a stranger to such perplexing situations. Overwhelmed by the intrigues of deceivers and flatterers around him, as well as the culture of impunity engendered by wicked administration, he cried out to God for help, in the process, alluding, as Elijah earlier did, that, “the godly man ceaseth” and “the faithful fail from among the children of men”. But as threatening as the situation was, God did not allow him to be consumed by the environment he feared.

The psalmist submits to the settled hope that God will halt the march of the wicked. He is always within reach to rescue the oppressed. “For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him…Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” David, as one of the worthies of old, qualifies to attest to the promptness of heaven in coming to the aid of those who run to God when there is trouble.

Our day is not one whit morally better than David’s. He escaped slipping into despair by praying to the Almighty. The same spiritual weapon would avail in our ungodly generation. Believers must not join the ungodly multitudes or slip into despair. We must wait patiently for the Lord’s deliverance as we pray and serve Him in holiness and spread the gospel.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
The sickening sinfulness of sinners should never make the saint sink.

GOSPEL REALM: STEPS TO SALVATION
1. Admit that you are a sinner. "For all [humans] have sinned, and comes short of the glory of God....[and] the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 3:23)
2. Repent now. "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out ...[for] if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness " (Acts 3:19, 1 John 1:9)
3. Believe that God loves you and Jesus died for you. "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet Sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8)
4. Invite Jesus into your life through prayer of faith. Jesus says, "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
